Follow the adventures of Captain Dirk Hollister, AKA Professor Hollister, a licensed charter boat skipper searching Hawaiian waters for giant blue marlin, yellow fin tuna and mahi mahi.  His story of big game fishing and the people that gravitated to the Kona Coast of Hawaii during the 1970s is also the story of women on vacation looking for romance and Dirk did his best to accommodate. Artists, musicians and spiritual leaders also came of Kona.  On many levels it was paradise for Dirk.

But there were dangers everywhere. There were con artist and sociopathic men and women.  Murder was common.  Drugs, money and jealousy were typical causes for the loss of lives, but racial tensions were often an underlying factor.  A deranged serial killer stalked the upper slopes of the volcano taking lives and shattering a sense of communal security.

Insights about the regional ecology, tourism, sport fishing business, fishing techniques, meteorology, oceanography, and geology of the Hawaiian Islands are interjected as they relate to fishing. To create local color some Hawaiian words are also included.  Lean back in your pool side lounge chair, have a drink and follow Dirk’s adventures and you just might learn a bit more about Hawaii and Dirk’s Ruthless Paradise.
